Certification process

Introduction

The following courses are intended as an aspect of the educational process, which leads to a trainer certification in the Gyrotonic®. They may be taken repeatedly by certified trainers to deepen understanding and by members of the general public for personal enrichment. This curriculum is subject to change.

Other Certificate Guidelines

  • All levels of certification in the Gyrotonic® method must be kept in good standing through continuing education. It is suggested that Gyrotonic® trainers participate in some aspect of Juliu Horvath MethodTM training courses at least once every 2 years. Private work with Mr. Horvath or a master trainer may be substituted for workshop attendance.
  • Every studio, where the Gyrotonic® is being offered to the public, must be qualified to do so through the use of only certified trainers.
  • The only valid Gyrotonic® certificates are ones that are signed by Juliu Horvath.
The Gyrotonic® Curriculum Contents

Gyrotonic® Level I Trainer
  • Pre-training in the Seven Progression Exercises.
  • Attend a Gyrotonic® Seven Progression Foundation Teacher Training Course.
  • Complete an apprenticeship period to acquire certification level proficiency.
  • Pass certification exam.
Gyrotonic® Level I Trainer Specifications

Gyrotonic® Pre-Training Guidelines
  • Participate in a 7 to 10 day intensive training in a group setting with a Master Trainer or Certified Trainer to learn in their own bodies the exercises presented in the Foundation Course. Pre-training must consist of a minimum of 24 hours. Four hours must include Gyrokinesis™ training.
    OR:
  • If the student has been a client at a Master Trainer or Certified Trainer's studio and have learned all the exercises taught in the Foundation Course, this may be considered pre-training. If the student does not know all the exercises taught in the Foundation Course, they would need to enroll in private sessions with a qualified teacher to learn these exercises. The student must complete 4 hours of GyrokinesisTM training. If the student has not completed this training they will need to enroll with a qualified teacher.
Note: Master Trainer reserves the right to deny a student enrollment in the Teacher Training course if they feel the student is not ready or prepared.

Gyrotonic® Seven Progression Teacher Training Course
  • The Seven Progression Foundation Training Course is used worldwide in therapeutic, dance, and sports related facilities.
  • This course introduces teaching techniques and principals underlying the exercises taught on the Pulley-Tower Combination Unit.
  • Students learn to introduce these principals through the "Seven Progression" approach. The intention of these progressions is to divide skills and elements of the Gyrotonic® work into smaller units so that mastery is possible and quantifiable.
  • Students learn in supervised groups, taking the role of student and teacher alternately to facilitate the learning process. The methodology is also taught through verbal instruction and physical manipulation, reinforcing the correct execution of breathing patterns synchronized with the corresponding movement.
  • Participants learn to conceive and prepare individual Gyrotonic® training programs.
  • An introduction to GyrokinesisTM will be taught by the Master Trainer during the Course.
  • A certificate of apprenticeship, signed only by Juliu Horvath, will be issued upon completion of the course, enabling the student to purchase equipment for professional use.
Gyrotonic® Apprenticeship Period

Making arrangements for apprenticeship is the responsibility of the student. They may fulfill this requirement by:
  • Using their own Gyrotonic® equipment to teach professionally the Seven Progressions plus appearing at a certified teacher's premises designated by Juliu Horvath for 20 hours of observation and assisting.
    OR:
  • If the student does not have their own machine, they must observe and assist for a minimum of 40 hours at a Master trainer's facility.
Note: The apprentice period requires a minimum of three months. The student cannot enroll in the certification exam in less than three and no later than eighteen (18) months after the successful completion of the Seven-Progression Course. Failure to do so will nullify the apprentice certificate.

Gyrotonic® Certification Exam Options

Complete one of the following:
  • Attend a 3 day certification evaluation conducted by Juliu Horvath
    OR:
  • Assist in a Gyrotonic® Seven Progression training course conducted by Juliu Horvath.
At the end of the course, each student will receive a Level I Certificate if they are able to teach the prescribed exercises in the Seven Progressions. If they are unable to do so, a Certificate will not be issued.

Gyrotonic® Level II Trainer

Pre-Requisite
  • Each student must be teaching as a level I Certifided Trainer for a minimum od 6 months before enrolling in the Level II workshop.

    Description
  • Level II workshops consist of advanced exercises taught on the Pully Tower Combination Unit. Students will learn to perform these exercises in their own bodies.
  • Students will apply teaching skills that they have learned in the Level I program to teach their clients these advanced exercises, considering they are able to execute these exercises themselves.
Students will receive a Certificate at the completion of the course.
